Cyber-attack leads to backlog of 20,000 forensic samples
The BBC has been looking into the scandal of Eurofins Forensic Services who were hacked a while ago and believes that there are around 20000 samples that are currently in the backlog, waiting for processing.
This is huge and the backlog will only get bigger the longer this goes on. Remember Police Scotland have already stopped using Eurofins until they report that their systems are safe and I am sure others will follow.
Eurofins Scientific was targeted by a “highly-sophisticated” ransomware virus in June, which led British police to suspend work with the company.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) is now clearing the backlog, which includes blood and DNA specimens.
It warned of delays to police investigations and court cases.
